Trees of Dehli
Kate moved to Delhi in 2017 she found herself amidst issues of air pollution, and the cutting of large, old trees of Delhi. She witnessed protests by environmentalists and tree lovers. As an artist, her journey in India seems to have motivated her to dialogue with the Trees of Delhi – the silent but vulnerable citizens of Delhi. The drawings seemed to bring out the characters of her new friends which she represented on Banana paper and painted with a squirrel brush. With the help of Pradip Krishen’s book ‘The Trees of Delhi,’ she found some characters. These were exhibited in a group show ‘A journey of Light.’ Prithi Fine Art and culture, New Delhi.

When lockdown happened in UK, my flight back to Delhi was cancelled, painting kept me meditative and present. “Dreaming of SundarTimes” sundar is Hindi for beautiful. The focal point is a glimpse of Sundar Nursery park, Delhi. With the Indian miniature art squirrel brush, I got mapping streets of Delhi. The pink clouds are the Corona Virus and the snake charmer along with the snake entwined in the Mother Earth tree are symbolic of renewal.
